Lightness means no frills
Reduced weight means enhanced speed, but also simplicity. And after all, isn’t lightness a lifestyle choice? One you can express in different ways: speed, vertical (both?), performance but also comfort. And why not? The desire to pamper yourself a bit and get out skiing a bit more. The winners of this category reflect a little all aspects of this lifestyle.
Boot of the year
Last year’s new model picks up this award for the second time. Last year, Zero G tied for the honors with its sister model in Carbon. This year, for simplicity, we’ve selected the normal version of the Peak. But the prize is just as valid for both as the differences between them are minimal and noticeable only to stronger riders with a heavier build. What everybody agrees on is the shape provides a slightly relaxed fit and above-average flex for the category.
Pro's choice
It’s often tough to decide award winners. Because the XT and Zero G Peak are so similar. The main difference is the lasting: the Tecnica model is (a touch) more forgiving, while people choose the XT precisely because it offers a snugger fit, more akin to a pro model. Check out also the F1 GT. For most, the differences will be hardly noticeable.
People's choice
Solar II it’s comfortable, easy to use, no nonsense, and one of the cheapest models out there. So, for most people looking to make the jump from inbounds to backcountry (but not only), it’s the ideal choice for a fun model that’s kind on the feet.
Smart choice
Technical yet super-comfortable, Quantum Free Pro is a wise choice as, despite the name, it’s not a Freeride boot. That said, it tends towards the upper limits that define this category (and possesses some Touring features as well). The liner is worth a mention: it’s beefier than a classic lightweight one and is very well designed. An intelligent choice, which pushes the boundaries of this category. With its competitive price, great comfort and ease of use, the Salomon MTN Summit Sport could be an alternative entry level boot.
