A ski for each of you
Fun, ease of use, reliability and safety. These are the watchwords of the modern touring world and the skis meet these requirements, with a whole host of innovations and surprises. For a class aimed at an ever wider public, ever more surprising tools are on offer when compared to the characteristics of old-style touring equipment. And for pros? Limited choice, but one superlative model.
Ski of the year
There’s always a first time and maybe it’s a sign of the times. Because 108 is clearly in the Free category, but with a weight of 1500g arcing full-throttle big mountain carves in powder is unthinkable. But when driven with the Tour boot, it amazed right from the off, for its weight and ease of use. It’s immediately obvious that this is a ski that’s most at home in powder conditions. Bring on the snow.
Pro's choice
In a world tending towards easy, fun skis that appeal to all, the selection for hard-driving skiers remains limited, unless they’re prepared to look outside this class. And then there’s the Navis Freebird. You test drive a different length to see if it feels a bit tamer. But nope, this is a real pro’s ski. Breezes through any type of snow, great pop in soft conditions when closing turns and reassuring edge hold on committing terrain.
People's choice
A ski that marks a major return by this Swiss brand to our Choice selection. The Session has been totally revamped: you'd expect a lightweight ski that performs well uphill but is skittish in descent. But this tool behaves smooth and docile, with a nice progressive pop when closing turns that helps you find the right rhythm for linking successive turns. A real surprise.
Smart choice
The 200 grams of extra weight has transformed this ski, enhancing performance and giving it a snappier feel, even on hard pack, terrain on which the previous model used to struggle a tad. This could be an alternative and especially fun choice, which blends freeride and freestyle back country.
