Lightness & performance
No changes at the tip of the iceberg, but a few changes in the lesser echelons. It’s not surprising that the podium winners are similar to last season’s. Which means, however, that the tech solutions have all been well tested and you’re not the ones doing the testing.
Boot of the year
It was already a perfect boot, and even more so after the minor upgrades between v5 and v6. It’s lost a little foot roll when compared to the Alien 4.0 but has gained balance and downhill performance. The differences are minor, just small details. But it’s the details that win races...
Pro's choice
Super-swift adjustment thanks to the Boa mech, heel hold is super firm, exceptional foot roll. If they suit your feet, deciding between these and the Stratos could give you sleepless nights. Just as it gives our editorial team sleepless nights.
People's choice
The yielding nature of the plastics under load, a somewhat more forgiving fit, and pleasingly responsive performance on the downhill. A great choice for the odd race and a more fast-and-light oriented approach to the mountains.
Smart choice
Similar in character to the top of the range, but by no means overshadowed by it. A new release for 24-25, it delivers an incredibly snug fit at the toe and the right blend of performance, versatility and comfort (if comfort can ever be an appropriate term to describe this class...). Just how a modern semi-carbon should be.
