Light and playful
The market trend for women skiers stays oriented towards all-round skiing pleasure, even if that means a few grams more on the scales. Women ski tourers are ever more confident and aware of their capacities and needs, leading to more autonomy when it comes to choosing equipment. Lightness for tackling bigger vert, but also more structured and smoother for tackling technical terrain and upping the fun. The awards in the ski category this year have been divided based on end use.
Ski of the year Light
Just as the men's model is rigid and burly, so the women's model is playful and stable. Certainly no new entry but it continues to be popular. This is an intense ski, so perhaps not one suited to women just starting out but it could be a great choice for intermediate and advanced skiers. For those with less experience, the ultralight but superbly skiable Movement Alp Tracks 85 deserves a special mention.
Sky of the year Tour
A 101 ski with a touring award? Trying is believing. The perception in ascent is that of a ski with half its waist width, while in descent this translates into stability and float. Ideal for beginners and experts and those wishing to enjoy the mountain to the max. If the waist width puts you off too much, consider the Kastle Pika 94, which is nimble in descents especially on open slopes.
Ski of the year Free
This new release from Black Diamond has proved popular in both the women’s and the men’s version. It feels like a familiar friend right from the first turns. No need to choose it too long to ensure good float, a factor which facilitates ascents. Intuitive, versatile and fun, but also responsive and stable. Ideal for no-stress powder days, but also full-throttle descents!
